A community initiative for our democracy

Political knowledge belongs to everyone.

Australia has one of the world's most stable democracies. Too many young people and culturally diverse communities still feel locked out of it. APEN exists to close that gap - through education, plain speaking, and real pathways in.

The belief underneath it

Political knowledge should not be the privilege of insiders or the university-educated. It belongs to everyone - and it can be taught.

What we do

Three ways in.

01

Presentations

Plain-English talks for community groups, youth programs, mosques, churches and cultural associations - how our democracy actually works, and how to be heard in it.

02

Explainers

Guides and sessions that strip the jargon out of councils, parliaments, preselections and campaigns - so the system stops being a closed shop.

03

Pathways & mentoring

Practical guidance for people who want to move from watching to taking part - joining, organising, running, and building lasting community power.

Who it's for

Built for the people the system forgets to explain itself to.

  • Young Australians
  • Culturally diverse communities
  • New citizens
  • Community & faith leaders
  • Anyone who wants to take part
